The post on the uni-safe albums got me thinking, do ICCS flips contain PVC? I can't imagine that a coin grading service would put coins in PVC slips but it got me thinking. I mean they do seal them inside the soft plastic flip but what if the inner slip cracks which seems common especially with silver dollars? Does this crack make the coin subject to PVC damage?

some of my coins that were flawless when submitting to ICCS started to develop black spots on them. And this got me wondering the same question...or perhaps I am storing the wrong....

Im not sure... but it wouldn't make sense for a professional company to use pvc which would harm the coin. But you never know everything is possible

Well, I guess there's some other kind of toxin that made these black spots.

If you look closely, both ICCS and CCCS use an inner mylar (non PVC) flip, which is sealed, and in turn, sealed into the softer outer flip. The inner flip is quite brittle, and anyone who has dropped an ICCS silver dollar on the floor, knows exactly how brittle those inner flips are.

However, if you have been to either office, there is no additional measures on climate control, so if your coin is sealed on a humid day, then it could affect the coin. Also, those flips are not completely impermeable to water vapour. So, long term storage of your ICCS coins is also important - humidity is the biggest thing you need to control.
