Is the coin on the left what a brass-plated LMC should look like?
The one on the right is a normal one for comparison purposes.
I would imagine they probably come in varying intensities of yellowishness, correct?

Best to save these in BU. With the youtube videos with altering cents, a circulated on is hard to know for sure if it happened at the mint. I would save it anyway. I figure, what am I out? One cent. I can afford that.

Aha, gotcha. I wasn't aware there were ways of altering pennies to get this particular effect.
So then the only way to be sure that it is genuine would be by finding one in obw rolls for those years.
