I guess AncientNoob will be the best to ID this. Saw it going cheap advertised as 'unknown silver coin'.

These are very early Indian coins - sometimes referred to as the "Gupta" empire. You used to be able to pick these up for a couple of pounds - but £10-£15 is probably closer to the mark now.

EDIT - It's a drachm denomination BTW.

Yes, Gupta Silver Drachm. That price sounds a little high. I've been seeing them for around US$7-12 lately. The price jump on these is purely due to silver prices. The base metal issues from Kushan up to the Guptas can still be had for around $5 in decent shape. I picked up 10 decent Kushan AE for $5 each a few months ago. Lots of this material coming out of Pakistan lately.

Well - If anyone wants it, yours for £10 + Postage. I'm not sure If I want to keep it yet - I might. I dont have a gupta coin yet.
