My current focus on my Lincoln wheat album is all BU red from 1935 to current. Conveniently, this is also a page break in my Dansco album and it got me thinking about 1934 to 1909. I have a feeling it's going to start jumping up to quickly to stay in the BU red zone and it got me to thinking about how I want my albums eye appeal to look.
In other words, do I want to go red, brown, brown, based on the cost of the different mint marks? The philly dates are much more common so getting them in BU red wouldn't be 'as difficult' as the denver or san fran marks. Or, do I just stick to all brown to keep it uniform? How about a gradient type effect on the 1921 to 1934 page, go from BU red and gradually go RB and finally brown at 1921. That way, the other two pages can be all brown. Might take some time to find the right coins to match the gradient effect but could be fun.
So then, it got me thinking about other types of neat ideas for a set. Any type of coin really. How about all toned? Or just sections or pages of toned in the mix? Or a low ball set or an all error set? Maybe an all gratified and damaged set? What else? Anyone with cool pics of unique or specifically target types of album pages or collections? Just a fun question!

I personally like some sort of uniformity myself. If I was going to do a toned one Id go all tone, just like when I have blast white coins in one I want them to all be blast white. When possible I try and keep uncirculated and circulated albums separate too but some of the old dates get very pricey to try and do that.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I put the best coin I can I can afford in each slot, even if that means a mix of reds and browns in the 09-34 portion.

I generally do that too though it bugs me. I dont know what I'm going to do for the 1930s on my washington album but I wont be spending thousands of dollars on it to keep them blast white. For the lincolns I've thought about separating out the memorials and the wheats to two different albums so I can have the red ablum and then what will likely be the brown album

I think I am in the same position as others have posted in this post. My Lincoln Dansco 8100, Starting at page three(1935)and up, is pretty much BU/proof. Or they were when I put them in the album. Page one, I am trying to update all the lower grade coins. I call them "flat heads", good or very good coins. I would like the first page to be all VF or better, but I am trying to get away from the endless upgrading and move on to other coins. My Washington quarters 1932 to 1998, is complete, but maybe 10 coins from being all BU/proof coins. When I put more blast white silver coins in the album .. the one that are fine/very fine really stick out. Like baseball said .. I am thinking I would rather put the couple thousand into other coins, instead of up grading this set anymore. So I guess learning to like, how circulated coins look with BU coins, could be a good way to go .... for some sets. I also have been thinking about breaking up my Wheat and Memorial cent album .. and not collect the shield cents .. I am sure I will not live another 50 years to complete a shield cent collection ....

In my 8100, from 29 up are pretty much BU reds. Before 29, I have a mix. Pretty much the best coin available at the time for the money I had. Still looking for the 09S VDB and 22 plain. Those two will likely be low grade or nicer cleaned coins. Can not afford super high end on those two.
I try to keep the coins in generally the same grade range, though tone not tone get mixed together. As a matter of fact, I have two 55D Wash quarters that are AU/BU coins, so I am not filling that spot in my circulated Dansco with them. And it is driving me nuts! LOL There are actually a few slots I have to downgrade in that book. The only two books I have that are not all BU coins are the 8100 and the Wash books. So yeah, I strive for grade uniformity. At least where the pocket book allows.

It's all about grade uniformity when you have multiple sets!
