I took these pictures outdoors, all that sun light made the coin appear light gray, in hand it's black. Other than that the pictures speak for themselves; it's seen some hard use(abuse) in the past. It almost looks like somebody carried it around in a pocket full of nails. Anybody care to venture a grading opinion?

EF45. Nice details. It looks like it may have been lightly cleaned at one time or another, but awesome coin! If I get a chance later, I'll try to attribute it for you.

Solid coin, probably XF-40, to possibly XF-45. I agree that it's had a bit of a cleaning, but nothing too bad.

What about the "digs" on the reverse of the coin? Specifically, in front of the eagles beak, under the left wing, on the corner of the shield, and between the 1 & 8 on the obverse. In hand the coin is so dark that they are not very noticeable, but they are very visible on close examination. I assumed they would bring the grade of the coin down somewhat.

I bought this coin on ebay, the pictures for it were terrible. The seller described it as being an 1827, square base 2, O-118, R-3. He also described the number & location of the "digs". I thought I could see some good detail on the bad pictures, I didn't own a bust half yet & I thought I would take a chance. For the price ($49) I feel like I got a decent deal, the only coin shop within 50 miles wants more than that for ones without any detail.

$49? Yeah, I could live with that.

Even with the damage, that's a great price. This coin has great eye appeal from what I can see. Congratulations!

I like it! A lot. Digs or not, they aren't making any more of that year, and the bust halves just age well, IMHO. Congrats!

I like it. It would be an addition to my collection. There is nothing like an old half!
