Hi! I'm new here, but I've been collecting coins for about a year or two.
Anyway, I was going through some change I had in my pocket and I found this 2000 Penny. It appears to have the shape of mississipi stamped onto it with MS inside the shape. Whats up with that? It looks really well done to be stamped on by some yoyo. There seems to be no press marks or swelled edges on the shape that would suggest any post die tampering at all...
Take a look, I would love some explanation. I've never seen this before, and Google didn't tell me anything.

It's called a counter-stamped penny. I believe it is done by a private company and they create the entire set of states among other things. I have found states, Kennedy's portrait, the moon landing, people's names, etc. Not worth much, if anything, above one cent, but some people collect them. The experts here can tell you more.

I like finding these. It's a keeper for me...kids love 'em! Collecting all 50 states from roll hunting is a major challenge.
