This was in one of our inherited coin bags. We are not very familiar with this series and don't know how to label it. To me it looks as though it happened with the die being the shoe is still visible. Is this a coin that would be advisable to go to TPG? Thank you for any knowledge and help with this.
Fascinating coin. I agree; this looks like a lamination which flaked off, leaving some detail behind like the shoe and the end of the stone. That was the side which was originally split, and it fractured over near the rim which is why the lettering disappeared completely. The error isn't something that needs a TPG to verify, and otherwise this common-date coin isn't worthy.
Thank you SuperDave. We'll keep it either way, thought it was quite interesting. Looks quite a bit better in hand. At least that will save me another submission.

Yeah, I'm aware of your situation and replying with that in mind. This one will sell itself if the time comes, and it's a pretty radical example of a lamination if it's of interest to you. You won't find many deeper.
will take you to a topic which I just started on the LSCC online site. There is a LOT of knowledge here on the series. I am such a new comer to the Seated coins that this is the best that I can do to help you.
Matthew, thank you for the link. I really enjoy learning about all the coins we have. My level of knowledge is so low on many I have sometimes I feel foolish posting some items, LOL. I'm always grateful for all the help and experience here.
There are other sites besides the CCF, not many that I would recommend. This is one such site. Most certainly, hang onto this dime for a while. It is ... quite curious.
