This is something I just found. Hopefully it is a collectible one. I can't find any info about a 1998-D NO FG with a quick internet search.

Over polishing removed the designers initials or Struck Through Grease. They were there when the die was new. The initials are part of the design. Not forgotten to be added. To me it's nothing spectacular. But some like them.

Thanks Coop. I think it might be die polish and filled with grease or struck through something like fabric?

Looks like Struck Through Grease. Not struck through fabric, that's a whole different animal.Type in "Struck through fabric" in the search box upper left of page for info.

Thanks for the help. I will label it as Struck Through Grease. The lines were throwing me off, they don't appear to be from die polish and they are all over the overse and reverse.

The lines you mentioned are the lines formed on the stock material. Even after a full strike they can be seen on some examples.

Here are two coins I found in a roll that have these. Each have the same marker and the lines run in different directions.
