On the hunt for new Bills I found this nice Note. http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-1913-GOL...refresh=trueThe Gold Certificate was sold from Germany to the USA about 2.5 Years ago. At that time the bill looks different. 3 pinholes, stains, rough upper and lower edge with small tears in the center and x on reverse, also visible on obverse. The bill was graded by the seller with fine.(Sorry for my bad english!)

hajduk,
There is quite a bit of controversy on various currency forums here in America about these older CGA holders / labels.
The newer labels from CGA have a star on the holder.
This is not my area of specialty (Older notes) and is rather trouble some for the hobby of currency collecting in general.
PM sent

As with any collectible there are doctorers out here (especially in comic books) where they have been professionally restored and then submitted for certification.
It seems only with oil paintings and cars that restoration is acceptable.
Old wooden future: forget about it. Cleaned coins: forget about it. Classic watches using factory replacement parts: forget about it.
Someone got to that bill and did their magic on it. Not sure what the bill originally sold for or what the restoration costs to justify it.

Hi, my pictures are older. That was what I want to say. I think that a restoration is acceptable but the buyer have to become a Information about any restoration. Why the Grading service agency do not write something on the Label about that restoration? I´m not always against restoration. Here is one bill from my collection.

How do they fix the missing paper?

Hi noahs-numismatics, the paper is not original. The museum conservator has taken paper with similar structure like the original paper and fixed it with rice porridge. The connection is perfect. That this area is not original can actually see only an interested collector or dealer. The print I have tinkered with an extra fine permanent marker. Sorry for my bad english.

I also have a fractional piece with a hole and the doctor used a second note of the same type to get just the right piece to place over the hole. It was well done and difficult to tell on the face but its fairly easy to see on the back. Guess that's why the E-Bay listing only showed the face!

I am surprised CGA didn't examine the note close enough to notice the repairs and label it "Restored"..
I have seen a number of rare CGA certified Large Notes that had been crossed over to both PCGS & PMG and received higher grades then assigned by CGA.
I have only used PMG one time to certify two rare error notes (1988A web-press & £20 UK triple serial #error) and received at least 2 points higher grade on then expected on the web error when viewed next to the same type CGA non-web 1988A error.

Quote: Steve - did you do the work or someone else? I used the services of a professional. As you can see, the teller stamp was removed, but almost all of the notes features lightened up a bit. It's apparent when the before and after scans are shown together.....otherwise you may not be able to tell.

Interesting, thanks. This is not that valuable a note, so the restoration must not have cost that much - can you share this with us?
