Sorry I don't know how to send private messages. I guess I should have asked, but anyway, you said that all newer machines can accept halves if equipt properly, right?
Well, do you mean ALL machines made after 1979 and later, that are also made to accept small dollar coins? I ask this because, there was this dollar coin nut I used to talk to, who "claimed" he spends $4,000 in $2 bills and $2,000 in dollar coins every week or so (must be a millionaire) and he said that there was a part in all new vending machines that had a diameter of 28.1 or something like that, and the current half is stated on the U.S. Mint website to be 30.61, which would disclude the half from being an acceptable coin for a vending machine.
Do you know what this part is that supposedly can't fit the half? I mean, is he talking about the coin slot being too small? Or is he refering to another internal part of the vending machines that halves can't pass through? Because, if thats the case, where its not just the coin slot, I may have even a boat load more troble of getting vendors to upgrade for halves, and succeeding with the issue probably right next to nothing as it is, with just having to change the coin slot and add a half tube. So, do you know if vending machines and would have to have any other parts than the coin slot replaced, a half tube added, and a switch flipped to accept and dispense halves?
And what about certain self checkout machines that already have a slot that comfortably fits halves, but drops them into the rejection tray at some stores? At least those should be able to fit and accept the half somewhere in the machine if equipt properly (half tube, bigger coin slot, flip of a switch), right?

Sounds very interesting, jbuck. Thanks a lot. Maybe I can get to the bottom of this. Did your friend set his machines to accept or dispense halves, or accept $2 bills?
You see, this is something that ran across my mind. I wonder if I learned to become a vendor, if that would make a difference.
