In 1960 and 1982 did the US Mint small dates early in the

year or is it vice versa? When did they stop minting the

one and switch to the other?

They also made small and large dates for 1974. Not to mention there were 2 different S mint marks for 1928, 1941, 1945, 1947, and 1952 business strikes. As well as 3 different S mint marks in 1946. These are all considered "design varieties", and it is unknown when they made the changes during the mint process. Therefore there is no way to tell how many of each variety exists.
