Hello, folks! First-time poster here. I recently bought both Intercept Shield Jefferson nickel albums ('38-'02 and '03-date), hoping for high-quality products to hold my business-strike Jeffersons. (Will get the proofs later.) Here's my review of the albums:

THE GOOD

The quality of the Intercept Shield albums cannot be denied. Not only does the green color look absolutely gorgeous up against the whiteness of the coins, the included slip cover is also fantastic. The holes fit the nickels snugly and do not allow the coins to turn when the pages are turned. The pages are also easily removable via margin screws. Very aesthetically pleasing.

THE BAD

There is a typo in the first album. The hole that should read "1981-S Proof" instead reads "1961-S Proof. Quite an oversight if you ask me. Not very professional.

THE UGLY

Note that the first album is supposed to be for Jefferson nickels from 1938 to 2002. Only problem is, the fifth and final page in the first album stops at 2002-P... with no slots for D or S from 2002. The second album moves right along, starting with 2003-P. Really, Intercept Shield? You're going to completely leave out two mint marks from 2002 because the 5th page conveniently ends there? Stupid.

"Well, surely they will have holes for all of my Westward Journey nickels." WRONG. Intercept Shield apparently forgot that the 2004 and 2005 nickels have two different designs for each mint mark. (Or maybe they just didn't care.) For any serious collector whose goal is to complete a set, this is inexcusable.

THE VERDICT

The Intercept Shield Jefferson nickel albums look great and sound like a nice product with all that "lined-with-Corrosion-Intercept" mumbo jumbo, but they completely miss the mark when it comes to completeness of the set. I'm sure they have other great albums, but the Jefferson nickel albums leave much to be desired. Look elsewhere. Especially look at Dansco, which I should have gotten to begin with. (I'd say Whitman for their pretty blue color, but seriously.... can a brother get a slip cover?)

Sorry about the photos, looking to upgrade my camera soon.

You've found just one of the reasons I stick to Whitman Albums. Most of the other companies do the same thing with poor planning on how to make pages for the amount of coins. Dansco makes many Albums that have just empty slots at the end. No planning on how to make an Album for the coins available. Same with many companies. Whitman Albums space the slots in such a way that there is no empty spaces at the end.
I think the green color of their Albums, same with Littleton, is not that impressive. Whitman Blue is similar as to could have been better. People brag about the color of Dansco, then hide them away from view anyway.
And I like those little slots at the end of the pages so you can get the slides out on Whitman.
To each their own. I've heard many people brag about Littleton Albums.

I like Dansco personally. I like the look and feel of them. But I do have a problem with there Jefferson nickel book. I have the 8113 book and it goes from 1938 to 2011 s proof. You would think the next page or book would start there, but no it starts with 2006.So now I either have to buy a replacement page for this book and have half a page left with blank holes or buy new book and move half of my last page to the new book and leave my first book looking like I'm missing a bunch of coins..makes no sense, why not just start the next book at 2012 p?..im almost finished with my Jefferson proof graded set 38 to present, 6 coins left to find...and I am half way through my Dansco Jefferson uncirculated and proof set.I will have to buy new book and move my pages over to that book and moving half of my last page to the new last page..I hate removing coins after I set them in place.Well thats my rant for the day...

They did it because the Jefferson nickel changed to a new permanent obverse in 2006. I believe that newer versions of the 8113 end with 2005. Still, as Just Carl points out, there are blank holes at the end.

For what it's worth. I really don't like Intercept as much as Dansco. I purchased a Intercept for my Walking Liberty halves, they slip around more than in the Dansco. I bought the Dansco and all coins stay in place...
I cannot comment on your issue, but Intercept is MUCH costlier at my LCS than the Dansco was.

I understand the 1961 S Proof Jefferson is very rare. I hope you find one at a good price.

I briefly owned an Intercept Shield Lincoln Cent album. I got rid of it as I found the quality disappointing. The main factor was that the openings were too large. The coins rolled around every time I turned the pages. After a few viewings, all were visibly off center, very annoying. I felt the quality was lacking, it had the look and feel of something made in China, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the review. I have a mix of Dansco and Whitman Classic in my collection and I like them both. They both have their shortcomings but they are my two favorites.
