I own one Morgan dollar, a 1904-O NGC MS63. I want to get one more, one day, but no rush until I see the right deal. I have been following some of these sealed GSA box deals I see go off on the bay. What is your general feeling? Is it possible the dealer did not open, replace a rare date with another GSA slabbed coin and reseal? Does GSA only produce CC mm coins when they distributed these boxes in the seventies? any opinions are appreciated thanks

Quote: Does GSA only produce CC mm coins when they distributed these boxes in the seventies? Not from what I have read; The "other" GSA Silver Dollars, Part 1 "...their published dates, mints, and numbers are general and not complete.
So far the number of proven mixed uncirculated non-CC GSA dates/mints stands at 28. Several more dates/mints are speculated but not proven. The list of known mixed uncirculated non-CC GSA is:
1878-P 7/8TF 1881-O 1884-P 1898-O 1878-S 1881-S 1884-O 1899-O 1879-P 1882-O 1885-P 1900-O 1879-S 1882-O 1885-O 1901-O 1878-S Rev 78 1882-S 1886-P 1902-O 1880-O 1883-P 1887-P 1903-O 1880-S 1883-O 1890-S 1904-O "http://www.nationalsilverdollarroun....org/?p=1741

Reputable places will not do things like that, neither will most sellers. Itd be the fastest way to never have anyone buy from you again. There are people out there that do things like that, but ebay isn't as bad as its made out to be. Not having a GSA box I'm not sure if it would even be possible to swap a coin out of it, but I wouldnt hesitate to buy one on ebay from a reputable seller

thanks lads
they're going off around $400 to $450 each time I see one
its a bit of a gamble, once you open it, you own it and if you pull a more common date mid MS (63 to 65) you just paid twice what you could have gotten that coin for.
hmmmm, to gamble or not to gamble, that is the question

I would much rather know what I'm spending my hard earned money on than gamble with it....just my opinion

I just bought one last week for $360. It had an 1883CC in it that might squeeze a MS64... Sometimes chicken, sometimes steak... I won't "gamble" on another one.. PG

In my opinion. Blue box with no date-> Gamble away! White box with no date-> Not exciting

Quote: I never heard of this in regarding GSA Morgan coins....can someone please provide more information. Ken - The blue boxes seem to be the common way the GSA Morgans were issued. White boxes, while not necessarily fraudulent, may not be the REAL deal containing a valuable and rare issue whereas the blue boxes would have a better chance. I have only gathered this information by searching the http://www. You should google away and do some reading for your own edification should you contemplate locating and purchasing a "sealed" GSA box.

So what could you get inside of the GSA box?

You can get basically any GSA 80-85 you want for +/- $200 of what those "unknown date" GSA's go for. Buy what you want in the condition you want and avoid the games. I love GSA's and a big gambler and I don't mess with these. Basically all of the GSA dollars were ordered by tiers, so buyers pretty much new what they were getting. I think you would have better luck scoring playing the lottery or at your local watering hole.
