This is my new set up, its a Samsung Tablet running windows 8 and an AM3011 Dino-Lite. With this setup I can look at coins magnified on my 11" screen from the outside of a locked showcase.

Great idea! I have a Dino-Lite and will take it to the next coin show and give it a try. At the expense of going off topic a bit let me share my Dino-Lite buying experience. I decided to 'save some money' and didn't get the option to turn off the LED lights - big mistake.

It would be amazing if you could overlay the image on an existing image.

What's the point of viewing a coin like this when you can actually hold it in your hand? Granted, you could use it when the dealer is away from his table but you only get one view and to properly examine a coin you need to see both sides of it from all angles. Ed ANA LM-3175

My roommate has just done something similar. He is wireless with his Canon DSLR to an iPad 4 retina display with the live view running on it, it is stunning! I gotta try it out like this when he get's back from a photo trip he is on. I love the USB plus the tablet for the "ahem" older generation whose eyes are getting worn out. I'll shoot a photo of my coins with a 100mm macro just so I can study it on a HD 30" monitor, way easier to see things, and with advances in software, even moving the contrast and lighting is easier. Great show and a Blue Ribbon for you!

Why not have a stereo microscope sitting out there for less than $200? Obviously superior in visual quality, and uses a lot less fossil fuels, too. Id prefer using a loupe over messing with someone's iPad and dinolite, but good idea.

Quote: What's the point of viewing a coin like this when you can actually hold it in your hand? True but I think this adds another dimension to evaluating a coin - if you like what you see, request it in hand and do the same on the other side. I think I would find it helpful in some cases. I can see cases where some dealers would not be amenable to this, though. And Gyrene7483, I have meant to tell you for quite a while that I enjoy your signature.
