I have an 1884 Liberty nickel with doubling of 'United', 'States', 'Of' and 'Cents'. I can't find any variety like this so I am assuming Machine Doubling.

But, there is a repunched date version of the 1884. All of the pictures I have seen show the 1 to be noticeably offset, albeit in different ways on different coins. The date on mine seems fairly aligned but there is extra metal raised up on the bottom of every number in the date. There is also some extra material behind the base of the 4.

1) Does this look like it could be a repunched date?
2) Comparing mine to the examples in the last picture below, the details in the hair (notably under the 'IB' in Libert as well as other markers) this seems to be EF45?
3) Does the doubling make it any more valuable?
4) Best guestimate of value?

Thanks!

I agree on the Machine Doubling (flat and shelf-like). I do not see a repunched date (but that doesn't mean it isn't there).

If you are looking at the raised areas on the 1 and second 8, then no it is not an RPD. The doubling on the letters appears to be Strike Doubling.

Thanks for sharing. ;D
