If ebay specifically cancels the transaction then that's the end of it. If they haven't cancelled it because it was before the 'shut down' then phone them up and ask them to cancel it. Then block his email.

Thanks for all help. I made an offer on a buy it now coin and he accepted. The coin was not cheep, close to $200. Then I was waiting the money to transfer to my paypal account so I did not pay right away. In the mean time I noticed a coin he was selling and wanted to buy that item to take advantage of the fee shipping. Before I could bid on the second coin all his listing disappeared. It seamed fishy that he said ebay was out to get him. I'm not sure he is trustworthy and now that I read his feed back am beginning to regret buying from him.

Try going to the item page and clicking the Pay Now button.

ebay is never out to get sellers unless the do something wrong. That's just the way it is. Hope everything works out for you. It will as long as you don't pay. If you are near his store, it may not hurt to stop by if you really want the coin...

Ask him to relist the item and then buy it again if you are really interested in the coin. DO NOT just send him money for the coin without going through eBay/paypal. This guy sounds like a jerk

He does not want to sell on ebay any more. He sent me this email:

Hello

Please visit ebid.net where you will find many auctions. In the following weeks, I will transfer many listings from ebay to ebid.net

I think it was a spam he sent all this customers. I got it just before his account on ebay went dead. I don't know ebid or if the offer the same protection ebay does.

Executive summary: buyer by no means is obliged to pay (unfortunately to sellers).
I had cases like this (buyers did BIN and did not pay and not responded to messages) - it's not the end of the world.
Seller would open "not paid" case and would be reimbursed for his fees. (I understand that might be not the case here as he's leaving ebay)

It does. You can also pay via paypal there too. Ebid is cheaper for seller (much less traffic, seller don't pay for listing and only pay 3% fv. Seller do have to pay a $40 one time fee) so ideally, the items are cheaper as the seller should pass those saving to the buyers.

Ebay's good when it works, but when it doesn't....I went over a year dealing with a simular situration where a seller was proved to be in the wrong, but in the end, ebay still allowed him to leave me negetive feedback. Go figure.
