My birthday is in just a few days and my wonderful wife has ordered me an ace 350. I can't wait. Which Beach in the UK should I chose for my first ever hunt? I'm located pretty much centrally so distance won't be a big factor.

I just bought my son a Euro ACE (same thing?) It seems to work pretty well - certainly for depth though the recovery time seems a little slow. It should be OK for dry sand - but I've heard it won't work that well on wet sand.

Have fun with it though - we certainly are!

Any great spots that I should start looking at making a trip to? I've also heard that I need a license to detect in the UK. Any ideas on that one?

So I got my metal detector went in the back yard and found an old rusty bolt a nail and a very old US dime. It was from all the way back in 1994. The metal detector will be paid off in no time. :-)

Congratz!
I got mine a few years back, and got over 6 ounces of silver and a thin gold ring on my first hunt.
That is what you can expect from the virgin beaches of Dubai.
This result is from a small part of the beach I always visit.
No one knows about metal detecting here, so you will be a rich guy detecting here.
Though you better do it in the night, where people here will think you are doing something wrong or holding a weapon. This is how ignorant people here are about metal detecting.

Not sure if you ever posted about it, but what did you end up finding on your first venture out? I think it's always exciting to see what people find on their first go. All I got was a quarter out of mine, but it was still fun.

Get yourself a pair of waders....wait until a very low spring tide and wade out with your detector. thats where the gold rings are generally found as they get washed out. Pick a very popular sandy beach where loads of people go. The combination of cold water (fingers shrink) and suntan lotion (fingers become slippery) means the rings drop off ...

Or just detect along the high tide line, good hit rate there too.
