Maybe one of you can help me with this. Was going to sell some ungraded coins on ebay or anywhere else. These are really nice coins but they are duplicates. I see Great Collections offers PCGS or NGC grading at $10 per coin if you consign the coins for them to sell. I understand you send them your coins and they will determine if they are good enough to be sent to PCGS, NGC or ANACS. They look for cleaned, damaged, etc and send those coins back. The others are sent to whichever grading company you want and you are charged $10.00 per coin payable when the coin sells on their auctions. This seems like a very god deal. Would like to know if any Forum members have ever done this. Would stop from getting a lot of details grade because they inspect them first before sending them to be graded.

Lets have some input.

If I had "premium" raw coins I wanted to sell, I'd certainly consider it. They must have a great deal with the top TPGs.

That's a course I will recommend for a new member who has inherited and wishes (or needs to) liquidate. If the coins can be determined here to be worthy of it, this is a far easier course for a non-collector. As for myself, I'd do it in a heartbeat if it fit my need.

Great Collections is a very good auction house. The $10 offer sounds like a good deal to me. Go for it!

I am not sure who throws a wider lasso of collectors, but Teletrade sends them in for free (your choice (alphabetically) ANACS, ICG, NGC or PCGS) if they sell for $250 or more. If it sells for less then it's the $10 or $11 fee.

Teletrade's Free* Grading

Register with Teletrade and have your raw coins certified by NGC and PCGS, ANACS, and ICG for free! Just consign your raw coins to an upcoming Teletrade auction and for every coin that sell for $250 or more, Teletrade will pay the grading cost!

* An individual coin must sell in a Teletrade auction for $250 or more to qualify for free grading offer. Coins selling for less than $250 will be subject to $10 or $11 per coin grading fee payable by consignor. Free grading program is only available for the standard grading service provided by Teletrade. Teletrade's usual low sellers fees will apply for all sold coins regardless of realized price.

Teletrade has higher buyer and seller fees, so the net amount you receive will be lower. Teletrade's reputation has also suffered in recent years for a variety of reasons.

Make your own decision. Mine would be to go with Great Collections.

Thanks for your input guys. I knew Teletrade does that also but with 18% buyers fees as against 5% for Great Collections I had to rule out Teletrade. I have about 20 Morgans I need to get rid of. Most would grade low MS with an AU or so but I think I would realized a much higher price if they were PCGS graded. I also have about 10 Gem MS Mercury dimes which I wanted to get graded before but never did. I think 2 of them could possibly get an FB rating. That would really pay for everything. Well it might be a while before I do anything.

Thanks again

Thanks for that tid-bit of info BH1964, I did not take the selling fees into consideration.

Great Collections, is a service I have not used myself, I have used TeleTrade many years ago. I have also bid on a number of Great Collections auctions, just haven't won anything yet. Great Collections was started by Ian Russell, he was the COO at Spectrum, who owns TeleTrade, Bowers, Spectrum coins, etc. Then he left Spectrum Group in 2010 to form Great Collections, for your info. He's an honest guy with a keen business head and a lot of experience in marketing/selling coins in the numismatic world, using the latest technology on the Internet.

Great Collections must have really been eating into Telerade business after Ian left to start it, as currently TeleTrade is offering no cost submissions. However looking at the stuff I bid on, and the quality of and amount of items, is way, way down from a couple of years ago. Teletrade is now a CAC submission center as well. With the current deal TeleTrade might be a good option for you to sell your coins. Though I think Great Collections seems to be gaining rapidly over TeleTrade the past 12 months in quantity of of coins and the quality is beating out TeleTrades offerings by a large margin.
