I just picked up a golden toned clad Kennedy half dollar for my slabbed 7070 collection and wanted to see what the CCF has to say about him in comparison to PCGS.

Thank you for your interest!

I know pretty much nothing about grading Kennedys, but something looked strange to me on the shield on the back.

I've went to NGC's website, and the shield indeed looks different in their picture.. http://www.ngccoin.com/coin-grading...Dollars.aspx

So.. I guess there was some design change when moving from silver halves to cu-ni halves.

Could someone please expain?

(p.s. I hold 0 non-silver halves, so I had nothing to compare it to).

I am sure that there were transitional growing pains when changing over from Silver Clad (1965 - 1970 40%) to CuNi clad (1971 - present), and this one does have a weak shield outline, particularly at the top (thanks for pointing that out). The dies were probably used beyond their expectancy punching out 302 Million plus.

From what I understand the 1964 Kennedy's were supposed to be a commemorative of his death and the dies were made with greater detail and struck with greater pressure to bring out the details.

I guess that I should not be surprised by the minimal responses on a clad Kennedy;

I looked and drooled, but I am not yet capable of grading them.

Has this one been checked to see if its a DDO?

To me the FS102 is not anything special, but I like the FS101.
