okay, so I couldn't help myself. I figured what's a gold collection with out at least one cali fractional piece.

For those of you that have not seen one of these, its about the size of a green pea, literally. It's so tiny in-hand.

thanks for looking
enjoy

Amazing that the craftsmen of the day could include so much detail in such a small coin.

I'm guessing F/VF based on nominal grading standards.

Thanks for sharing this unusual and undoubtedly rare coin.

I'll take a stab at it and say MS-62. It doesn't appear to have any flat, dark spots on the design that would indicate wear and the overall surfaces seem a little bit too lustrous to be a circulated coin. Since I am not at all familiar with California fractional gold, my guess is probably no better than anyone else. Sweet acquisition!

I think MS63 not very familar with them and my first guess at grading one of these tiny coins. This is an octagonal coin? The lines on the reverse that look like scratches I believe are adjustment files either on the planchet or from damage to the die and not the coin itself.

My pics did not help. This coin is fully lustrous and in-hand is much better than the pics.

I would never buy one of these not in a slab and I won't be buying anymore. I just wanted one for the collection since they are so unique and cool looking. The dealer I bought it from went off price guides versus recent hammer drops at HA and other places so I feel like I at least got a fair deal.
