Is there a way to be able to reply to an individual post in a topic and have it appear nested underneath it? Sometimes I read an old thread and would like to be able to reply to a comment that's maybe a few days/weeks old and a page or 5 back in the topic history without having to qualify my reply.

I suppose that's what the quote tags are for and sub-threads could get confusing, and topics could get splintered. Still would be nice to be able reply directly to someone's comment and have it appear nested under the comment.

The only thing you can do is quote the specific post to which you want to reply.

Personally, I do not like nested replies. It invites a person to have to make several posts to a thread (one for each fork) when one could suffice.

I quit using a forum because a few monster threads had evolved into their own forum with hundreds of nested conversations going on in each thread. Impossible to enjoy. I do not blame the moderators for giving up on it.

I know this sounds like a good idea on the surface, but it would get ugly quickly. We try hard to keep topics on target as it is, allowing splits like that would make it even harder. You'd quickly have many different discussions going in the same topic.

Thanks, jbuck and bobby. I see your points. And I do make use of the quote feature frequently. It's just sometimes the original post is lost a few pages back.

Thanks for the all the hard mod and maintenance work.
