Have just sold a set of (12) consecutive year proof sets on ebay, but my worry is that the buyer is a total noob (0 feedback) and concerned that this buyer may not purchase fully (retrieve Paypal) items. Of course I will wait for confirmed payment to occur, but leery of selling to a new eBayer for some reason. Any suggestions?

Well - unless you noted in your listing to have new buyers contact you before bidding - I don't think you can do much there. To protect yourself, you confirm payment before shipping - and include tracking and confirmation reciept on the shipping.

I have shared your concern in the past, but to be honest a lot of the 0 feedback (new) buyers proved to be a smoother transaction than some veteran buyers. Just my experience. Doug58s nailed it... Confirm payment cleared to your account, ship with tracking and make sure tracking info is registered with eBay/pp

JJ hit it on the head. New or old buyers can be problems or it can be smooth sailing. The only thing I've really noticed is the new buyers are less likely to pay and sometimes just disappear which is annoying but doesn't cost you any money

Everybody has to make their 1st transaction sometime! I understand your concern but if you take the normal precautions you should be just fine.

Another action you might try is to check the buyer's " ebay Member User ID History" to see if they buyer has changed his user ID recently or frequently. You can do that by going to the buyer's feedback page, click on "See All Feedback", and then under the "Member quick links" on the right hand side of that page, click on "View ID History". I'm not sure how ebay keeps track of it e.g. profile info or what, but it might be worth a try. Hope that helps.

I too have been in your shoes. So far the newbies I have dealt with have provided the funds without any issues.
My biggest gripe are with dead beat buyers.

I have been negative two for two with "first time buyers". Two sales, two mess-ups. I should add that these were not coins, but my other hobby motorcycle parts. One of them was for $500. A real pain, as I had to wait through the process to collect my much needed money. I hope your guy pays, let us know! I now require all buyers to have a PayPal account. Time will tell if that is any defense. There is an easy button for that.

Sorry... this question veers slightly off topic.... Can you change your name in ebay and maintain your feedback?

Well, hey, think of it this way, somebody made an ebay account for the sole purpose of buying your stuff. You should be proud.

- still no payment, have googled the guys name & it appears the address given is no longer occupado (shows a p.o. box # for that name), around Orlando. Thinking its a slick relative trying some identity theft @ this point. Can always re-list (1999 - 2010 proof sets)

Zook when you can just open up a case that you havent received payment. For the 95-w while the buyer never got the item its unlikely he got anything more than a hassle out of it. ebay refunds everything thats not delivered or fake

You posted on 6/7 that you "just sold" your proofs Then on 6/8 you posted "no payment yet" Maybe you should give the dude a chance to pay. They are obviously not that ebay savvy evidenced by their feedback number I always give my buyers 3 days to pay...then a nice reminder (invoice) is sent. If after a week there has been no communication from the buyer THEN I initiate a no payment claim. I recently sold a NGC MS70ER 2008/07 ASE for $1025 (which is way over what it is going for) to an ebay newbie with a FB of 2.It took him six days to pay but he did pay and everything went fine.
