I am trying to take photos of the quality that would allow the "brain room" assist me in my grading questions.

Does anyone have an idea? I tried the "tulip (on the left of the manual menu) in combination with the zoom.

Thanks.

zisindd

is this the 6 mp canon powershot sd600 elph that came out
around 2006?
If it is,though I have never used it,after looking up the
specs online,it should do what you want.Until recently I
used a 2.1 mp nikon coolpix950 that came out in 1999.I used
auto settings for everything except white balance and used
it exclusively for coins.
Maybe as the day goes on someone with experience with this
camera will chime in.

I think first we need to know what isn't happening that you want to.

i would like to take photos in focus, such as those shown on ebay. I either get the photos out of focus, incorrect flash lighting etc. any help would be appreciated. I looked at the manual and set everything to auto but no change.

I'm not a photo expert but have used Canon Elphs for several years. If you have a lot more patience than I do you can get perfect pics. You can also get accetable ones with minimal effort with a tripod, timed photo & good lighting.

thats the camera I am using.

macro (flower) setting, on a homemade tri-pod about 4" away from the coin, NO ZOOM (you will have a lot of background left over that you can crop out - I just find the focus better).

light source (60 watt table lamp) coming in at about a 45* angle at the 2 oclock position so there are no shadows.

depending on the coin either "fluorescent" or "tungsten" light filter setting.

considering these are filtered with the CCF filter below 100KB (about 10% original size) I think its more than adequate.
