That's what a PNC is right? 1 out of 3 Australia post Seems like the Nuphil Yarralumla PNC is no longer king. (I didn't vote for him. How do you get to be king anyway...) Prices for these have dropped, wheras some of the limited edition Australian Post issues are selling strong as. In just a few short weeks, the selling price for 1 of the 6 kangaroos has soared well above the purchase price of 30 bucks. A red cancel-stamp Rememberance Day PNC sold recently for silly money. Seller must have been stoked. I guess the moral of the story is... If you are a long pocket short armed beady-eyed collector of limited edition Australia Post PNCs, you need to buy them on the day. If you are permitted to buy more than 1, do it. The free-from-any-Post-Office Stamp Bullitin magazine keeps you abreast of special requirements like phoning your order on the day. Is there anyone here that collects PNCs from elsewhere in the world? Numisbrief anyone?

I thought it was Philatelic Numismatic Cover but I think you're right about the C being Combination. I don't collect them myself but I do have one of the 2000 Olympics $5 PNCs.

Hi Mr T.
Which one do you have? The two Australia Post issues featuring Athletics & Swimming are readily available & seem a bit overpriced to me.
There was also set of 16 silver coin covers released by Borek (or maybe Philswiss?) cancelled in Sydney containing each of the coins on page 253 of the latest Maccas.
The same mob also produced a set containing each of the 28 Aluminium Bronze five dollar Sydney Olympics coins on the preceding 2 pages of maccas.
These two sets of PNC envelopes were made from relatively lightweight paper and due to containing large heavy coins they don't travel well. Some in my collection have suffered small tears to the coin window in the envelope after travelling half way around the planet.
I'm missing 1 of the 28 & 3 from the set of 16. Anyone holding?

According to Renniks PNC = Philatelic Numismatic Cover.
"Combination" does sound like an appropriate descriptor though!

I'd reckon cover. Similar to FDC (First Day Cover) not (Fleur du Coin).

I think there was a recent article in the Coin and Banknote magazine that said it was Combination but I might be remembering wrong.
Anyway, I think the PNC I have is the athletics one (it's got a runner on it).
macjxl, I'm guessing the ones you're looking for aren't official (if that's the right word)?

Mr T, you got me pondering more, so I searched the Australia Post website for PNC ....
This stamp issue features a limited edition (15,000) postal and numismatic cover (PNC).
Combination does fit though.

Hm, that's interesting. The article at http://121.223.202.9/pa-inc/austral...l%20pncs.pdf talks about why it's combination rather than cover (which surprised me as that was the first time I'd even seen it described as a combination instead of a cover). Anyway, we all know what we mean.

Hey Mr T,
The term "official" has been debated to death. I suspect a more appropriate term is "private issue".
Australia Post started producing "postal numisthingo covers" relatively late in 1994. Private companies in the land of the wrong white crowd like Nuphil & Hutt Commemoratives & seppo's like 99 Co. & Fleetwood had been producing them for decades already.
Some of my favourite PNCs were issued by a Pommie mob currently calling themselves The Westminster Collection (aka Mercury). They've been churning out PNCs like crazy - usually celebrating some royal event. The ones I favour contain gold coins, usually sovereigns, but sometimes large five pound coins. They've even released a few limited edition gold coin covers with hand painted watercolour illustrations. Collecting these has kept me poor.
East & West Germany produced PNCs containing silver coins starting around 1972. I like these too, and they are just as responsible for my poverty. :)
Getting back to the 2000 Sydney Olympics 5 dollar PNCs, a private mob called Millenium produced one & I think the Olympic Committee even produced an "official" PNC. Both of these seem to be a bit overrated IMHO. Neither are rare, & neither contain a scarce or valuable coin.

I think it was always postal numismatic cover but more recently there are issues that broaden the term hence combination has started to be used. I'll try and find a link.

Ok here's one. This is not technically a cover.

PP Who was the issuer of that one? I can't find it in either the Mint nor AP info. (Mint just has a card printed with no stamp etc). Is that a stamp or a picture of one? Any chance of a pic of the back? (Is it a postcard?) Cause then we can have a Philatelic Numismatic Combination Cover Card

It's an official Australia Post issue. I had saved the image when it was listed for sale on the AP website. I'd have to dig back through the Stamp Bulletins to find more info (or if anyone else has them can -I might not have kept it). I'm sure there was another of the coloured air dollars sold this way too.

Ah, found it AP Impressions Catalogue 2012. 4 "Stamp and Coin Sets" so they haven't called them a PNC at all but they do include a stamp and a coin. Pink Cockatoo, Flying Fox, Rosella and Kookaburra $34.95 each. Coloured RAM 1 dollar with a stamp minisheet numbered and limited to 250 each.

Thanks PP!
Geez, at those mintages I wish I had a couple tucked away.
I gave up on AP back in the early 80's when they became the releasers from heck and prices went through the floor!
