I recently found an
1853 silver dime in my couch but instead of saying on the back...half dime... It says one dime.
Is this a unique coin? And if so, can you tell me why its different?

You have an 1853 Seated Liberty dime. It is a common coin and not unique. The designs are the same.

Thanks for the info. Going to hang onto it. It's neat to hold something that has been passed around for 160 years. The stories...

Just to find it in your couch is a story in itself!

i wish I had a couch like that!

Half Dimes were bought on by demand of smaller denomination coins that were composed of silver instead of other smaller denom coins like cents and Half Cents.

awesome coin you have, post pics if you're able

I probably do. There is no telling what may have fallen out of my pockets over the years. I know I have a change jar on the counter in the kitchen that has, along with todays modern coins, Half Cents, large cents, Indian heads, Half Dimes, and Seated dimes in it. Plus gold rings and chains. Anything hanging around on the counter got tossed into the jar.
