1. By posting a picture of it here.

2. It was mailed to you from China.

3. It has one side like this:

17.26 KB

and one like this:

19.07 KB

4. It was a really really good deal from a guy selling coins out of the back of his pickup truck to make money for gas and for his Mom's new prosthetic leg.

5. The weight is wrong.

Thank you and I will post a picture or try to. I cannot get a good pic with my camera, any ideas?
On the front is 13 stars and lady liberty sitting,
on the back the only words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the eagle, CC under the eagle, and the words ONE DOL.

if you are worried about it being a counterfeit then we need to see the actual coin. and both sides if at all possible.

i have always liked this coin so I am looking forward to your pics if you can.

Hello Kcpresson,
Your coin is a fake for sure. The CC mintmark is a dead giveaway. It stands for Carson City which was a real mint that did manufacture Seated Liberty dollars. However, that mint didn't open for business until 1870. Genuine 1840 dollars were only made at the Philadelphia mint. A real coin would have a reverse similar to the one you posted, without the CC.
By the way, welcome to the forum!
