So ... I accidentally came across a very special listing and the thing is that ... It's not only one. So lets start from the beginning: As far as I know, if a mintage of a coin is said to be 10 000 for example, that means there are only 10 000 coins maximum out there in the hands of numismatists. If you get a number with an R in the end, the same number without that R (Replacement for those who do not know) must be destroyed (Should not leave the mint as it jeopardizes the mintage of the coin). How is it possible that there are cases like that on ebay, and that is only the ones we see as they are listed. I would like to hope those are the only ones, but I doubt so ... 1) Two rolls with the SAME number, although one is a replacement, the other one is also out there: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FAREWELL-TO...=904215155462) A roll WITHOUT a number at all: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FAREWELL-TO...54ea1&_uhb=13) A roll with TWO numbers: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FAREWELL-TO...53731&_uhb=1

Amazing that one seller has three such anomalies. Sure am glad I'm not cynical or I might think that a person would tamper with the COA on a penny roll in order to justify a ridiculous asking price. On a related noted, Taro-chan and I discovered that we have duplicated COAs on our tall ships coins. He has the number only and I have the "R" version. Still a mystery but the logical conclusion seems to be that the mint messed up either on printing the COAs or in counting the coins minted. https://goccf.com/t/139695#1253745

Amazing you were able to find someone on the forum with the same C.O.A, at least I hope the mintage the Mint early releases is true ...

The "r" probably stands for replacement the way an asterick on currency bills means a printing mistake/error. In later years a "x" in the serial number meant a replacement note.

The sticker of my roll peeled off. So, I have a roll without a number and a number without a roll ... See where I am going with this?

Ya I know why they taped the stickers on cause I have 2 rolls without tape and the numbers are for the most part hardly clinging onto the rolls. Hmmm maybe I can get more money for them because there are "error" rolls before the tape fix by the mint....

Yes, that was the mint's party line. The problem is I have COA 10560R and TC has COA 10560....kind of leaves a big whole in the story.

So in fact there are more than 20,000 rolls issued.

I revived your old thread re: the Tall Ships COA's CC so as not to hijack this one.

Are these "special" coas actually fooling people? i.e. have there been completed sales for them?
I mean peel a sticker off one and stick it as a second coa on another roll....
Imagine if a 20,000R showed up.

Mint uses letter "R" to prevent duplicated numbers. If RCM wants to have a replacement but accidently wrote down wrong number, but with a letter "R", it will prevent duplicated numbers, such "0123R" and "123" are easy to tell the difference, of course it also means that RCM made a mistake.

See where I am going with this? t_y, want to put your sticker on my roll and then sell it to suckers, err, I mean NCLT COA fanatics on ebay? That should cover our Mill Street Pub beer tab and pulled pork poutine intake for quite some time...
