A friend of mine was really upset when he missed out on this 1796 Bust Dollar for $500:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1796-draped...047675.l2557
It looked like a nice B-4 at a steal price.......here is what happened:

OUCH! It hurt me to read all those negative feedbacks. Does ebay buyer protection cover those buyers? I don't understand why ebay isn't deleting him for this.

On another note, I'm glad to hear your buddy dodged that bullet. I would have a very thorough talk to him about checking sellers feedbacks and all of that.

Odd situation. Went from a valid seller to a crook in one day. Must be desperate.

To sell on ebay you need to be tied in with a valid bank account / credit card. This seller must have also disabled those accounts - though the trail should still be there. I would imagine that if the fraud was limited to a few pounds or dollars ebay would suck up the loss - but, as in this case, where it is 1'000s of dollars they may get a solicitor involved and trace him via his previous bank accounts and then prosecute.

Seven empty boxes since June 5th. All were coins which sold between
$400 and $650. Other non-coin items were apparently shipped.
Seller has no offerings currently.

Has all the markers of a classic hijacked account. Looks like the seller fell for a phishing email to me.... Sometime between May 15 and May 24.

If it was a hacking would ebay remove those if you could prove someone else had taken control of your account?

That is exactly what I was thinking. I feel sorry for the buyers.
