This is a very good question I have been thinking of since they started really pushing the dollar coin. Do you think that, since the "COINS Act" would replace the $1 bill with the dollar coin, yet there will still be $1 bills printed for collector demand, but not for general circulation, and that means, no worries for vendors needing to upgrade their dollar bill readers to take them, do you think that the government might redesign the $1 bill every time every other (circulating) denomination is redesigned, to give collectors even more of a variety of numismatic items to collect? Or do you think they won't even waste their money paying for artists to create designs and, time on engraving new design plates for a bill that no longer circulates?

I could sure go for some new "colorized" "big head" George Washingtons to put in my collection. How about everyone else?

Hmmmm good question...

If they were to no longer print it for general circulation and it would basically be made strictly as a collectors item, I think that they might follow the path of the Mint with its silver eagle in that they would keep the design the same ever year with the occasional new feature throw in on important dates.

As for a large headed george, I don't really see that anytime soon-- or really anytime at all.

No big headed Georges for me.. How bout some reprints of large-sized designs? An Educational note reprint would be awesome.

Edit: I haven't been keeping up with the numismatic world lately... How far along is this COINS Act?

I think that if they were no longer being printed for general use and only made for collectors then they should be made with a different design to keep collectors.

I also think that the large size notes designs should be used. Maybe a different designed large note for each year? Or just use the $20 gold certificate as the new design for the $1 since it already has Washington on it and its and great design.
