My first new addition in a very long time. Received this beautiful little coin from Nate. This is the first one of this type so I don't know really anything about it. Not sure if my pics are aligned right and which is the obverse or reverse. It is a beautiful AR Drachm of Saurashta & Gujgrat, India circa 800-950

The bust is upside down and rotate reverse 90 deg clock wise. The fire comes to a point. I am sure the picture will make more sense, if you look at a Persian dihram.

I really do like these there is a clear bust if you look at it correctly. He is wearing a Sasanian style headdress, facing right, I nice beaded necklace. Its very, very rare to see one that has everything on it. You are missing part of the shoulder. The reverse is really nice, at first I thought wow these coins don't make sense, but look at your reverse. It looks like a bunch of dots and slashes, but there is a lot of applied detail here, assume an isometric view, your are hovering in front of the flames, looking down at the heads of crowd in attendance. In my opinion well executed.

That's a very interesting coin--from a region that I know little about--but always enjoy learning something new.

Ancientnoob: Convenient list? Too much information! - But to most Western eyes, that's the nature of Indian coinage. I have about 100 Indian coins up until about 1900, ranging over 20 centuries, and I consider myself a raw beginner! I can identify most Greek and Roman coins, but I have to be spoon fed, when it comes to Indian coinage.
There is not really enough easily accessible information for Indian coins, as there is with Greek and Roman coins.
