I uploaded the pictures. the coin is indeed lighter, 17 grams.
seems that it isn't the real thing. interested to hear if it has any value at all?

I am sorry but I am afraid it's not genuine. On the reverse, the denticles and eagle are weak and mushy. The rim doesn't look correct for the issue. Also, it is too light.

My biggest indicator that the coin is not genuine is the fact that the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is absent from the reverse. Also the fonts don't match.

Aye, indeed, this is a counterfeit.

This particular variety is a base-metal fake from mainland China, minted by the thousands as "replicas" only to be sold as genuine to exploit the high price of precious metals.

Here's the O variety in this series: http://fakes.numismetrica.com/2012/...-1871o-0001/

Same exact obverse die. It's worth about $2.50 - $3.00 *as* a counterfeit to a counterfeit collector.

Completely legal in the USA, Canada, and the UK, so long as you have no intent to defraud someone with them.

That's one of the first questions on The Black Cabinet's FAQ here, with specific laws:

if you look good on the obverse rim , you can see the seam . that part tests positive for silver probably
