I think its a N-3 but I haven't been able to find another 1 with obverse Cud near the 3rd star. Anyone ever seen 1?

Looked in my 3 books on large cents - no mention of this for 1827.

Think it may be a new unrecorded terminal die state of a N-3?

I think you have a rim bump.

Just compared the edge of a 1804 s-266 with a known Cud above RTY to the 1827 cent's edge above the Cud in question. Both coins seem similar near the obverse edge of the Cuds. Thought you could be right, but not so sure after looking at both of them. Also the right point of the third star seems over cut into the center. I took the coin out of holder for a better pic.

An early rim bump that raised some metal, that then acquired wear, might look like that. The edge seems a little flatter at that point. Is anything visible at that point on the reverse?

i see that the rim is not perfectly circular at the point of the ' Cud', suggesting an rim bump.
