I'm thinking about joining PCGS to submit my 1942/1-d dime along with some other coins. Is this considered an error coin? I see that error coins are charged twice as much for grading and can't be in the same box it seems when mailing them in (or can be in the same box there but not on the way back). Was hoping that someone could clarify the 'error' part. Thanks!
I believe that would fall under a variety since it was an over strike and not an error like the wrong plancet or being off struck. I would definitely give them a call to confirm before sending it in though
The PCGS Coin Number in their catalog for a 1942/1-D is 5041. This is a variety coin that is slabbed and identified without an additional charge in the past. nlp
