My point: this is a Family Friendly forum. We have all levels of coin collectors here, from the young one getting his or her first coin all the way to certifiable experts who have been collecting for decades. This forum welcomes all of these different types of collectors and strives to make all feel welcome.

I doubt you would have appreciated it if I commented on a coin you bought and said the taken to the cleaners comment. Also I am not sure I would be claiming to be a better grader of authenticity than PCGS.

You might not appreciate it, but would it help you if you WERE taken to the cleaners and everyone told you what a wonderful deal you got? No. It might hurt but it is better to have honestly felt opinions than feel good comments.

Honesty is the best policy. But, there are better ways to tell someone that they didn't make a good deal rather than saying they got taken to the cleaners and laughing at them.
And the worst part of this is that Jerry didn't even get taken to the cleaners. He paid a fair price for a coin he likes.

What Zack said.

We have a different standard here. We hold everyone to it.

If one does not think they can play nice, I can show them the door.

I have been following this thread and would like to say I like the looks of the Trade dollar jerryc39 purchased and I also think the price paid seems to be fair. I really don't need to comment about other people's comments as it is obvious.

Getting back to the Trade dollar itself, did anyone else notice the direction of the mintmark being upside-down, or am I just seeing things?

with Zack, jbuck and Dave 100%. Well said all three of you!!

I have also been flowing this post and I think you did just fine money wise and have a very nice, honest example of a Trade dollar, I love the toning!

Edit* sorry DaveH, you posted while I was writing so I didn't see it.. But yes I did notice the mint mark.. It does appear to be upside down or something.. Curious.. Any ideas anyone?

I'd like to see a close up of the mint mark, myself, but my initial thought was it's merely a circulation hit that removed/flattened part of the lower serif that makes the mm appear upside down.

Hey jerryc I'm sorry for how I said things, you did not deserve that. When I buy coins I usually pay 30 to 50% of coins value. ebay is probably the biggest coin market in the world and therefore has the most counterfeits. Any real Trade dollar is a good Trade dollar since they were only made for ten years. No hard feelings and good luck with your collection.

Thanks js bruton. Actually I bought this coin from a collector on the NGC forum. I do buy mostly large cents on e-bay. Jerry

Jerry,

I really like the look of your new Trade dollar and think that the price was very fair.

As far as paying too much for slabs...that is a matter of opinion. I have been burned on raw coins too many times and "I" like the security of a TPG coin over raw. To each their own.

I agree with the above comment.

I'd like to point out that the price guides are only that, "guides." The true value of a coin is what a collector is willing to pay to add it to his/her collection. This coin is obviously worth $250 since it was worth that to Jerry.

That said, if I collected these, I also would have happily paid $250 for this coin as I feel it's well worth the money for the toned look and grade.
