Just have a question about "unsearched rolls" of wheat backs on ebay.

Are they really unsearched?Did anyone here ever bought those unsearched rolls?
Would they be a good source to find errors?
Thank you very much

no.
yes.
no. (well, maybe)

You're welcome.

They are generally VERY searched. You'll buy an unsearched roll to discover it is all 1930s and 40s. The seller is either lying outright, or distinguishing between "sorting" and "searching".

I bought a very large lot of dateless Buffalo nickels that was advertised as "just the way they come to us." Not a single mint mark or type I in the whole lot. My advice, don't expect anything special.

About 90% of the "unsearched roll" listings are indeed searched.

About six months ago I bought a few brand new BU OBW 2009-P LP2 Cent rolls. The seller said these were from sealed boxes from NF String & Son. The ends were crimped tight on both ends and looked as if they were done by a machine.
Well, I finally opened one of these rolls last week and to my surprise I found 3 Denver mint coins mixed with the P coins.
Go figure that one out.

Imo, the best unsearched rolls are found in sealed boxes from your local bank.
Rest in Peace

What the sellers mean is "unsearched since last time." It's amazing how many unsearched cent rolls and cent rolls that just happen to have Indians or silver on the ends are for sale. CAVEAT EMPTOR!
By the way, how does the seller know they're all wheats if the roll is unsearched?

I have bought 5 "unsearched rolls" off ebay. I have never been really bummed about what I got. Keep it in mind that I went into it believing they had been searched. I got 1 pretty nice roll with a wide variety of dates and mint marks (from 1917 to 1958 P,D,S). I also got one roll with 2 RPMs and a minor DDR. Also, I have never bid over $4.50 for a roll. I just got lucky and won the ones I did. Make sure you check the feedback.

You first need to answer what you mean by searched. Most every single roll or lot on ebay has been searched for key dates. Now as far as varieties go, keep in mind that those of us that search for varieties make up less than 10% of the entire coin collecting community. Most dealers that have shops or just do shows have no clue what an RPM is, or that the 1945 Wheat cent in their case is actually a doubled eye. I buy these lots all the time on ebay. I have done quite well. My last batch of 1500 yielded close to 15 RPMs, 4 of which were Cherrypicker's varieties, and 2 minor doubled dies.

In some cases the seller means "not searched by me".It might have been searched by another family member or even a staff member.
