Hello, I was wondering about this 1883 Liberty nickel I have in my collection. What grade would it get? Is it a proof? Thanks in advance.

Wow, what an amazing strike. With a strike like that, I can't imagine it not being a Proof; I've never seen a Business Strike example that comes even close. However, let's await further comment.

It appears to be either strike doubled or have a DDO. I'm not sure it's proof though, the denticles look very proof like, how is the contrast, most 1883 N/C proofs are almost cameo. This one could possibly have been whizzed? The chin/jaw area looks strange, possibly tooled or recut.

Also check the area just behind Liberty's head on obverse - is that a scratch or just a hair on the coin? Also betwenn the two stars on th right of the date also see a scratch.

Is this a photo or scan?

Those aren't scratches as I don't see them on it now.

These are photos, taken by a friend as I don't have a good camera right now and iphone pictures leave much too be desired.

I not quite sure if it's a proof. My first impression was a very well struck but cleaned business strike. I am unsure if it is lighting or not but the luster just did not strike me as proof. I could be mistaken.
