I enjoy buying them but people are telling me to save my money and to stop buying them.

Maybe it's better that I move on to the 2.5 gram bar instead.

I totally understand trying to buy stuff on a small budget. Just don't forget to look at what percentage you are paying above spot. Or another quick way to do the calculation is to figure what you are paying per ounce. For example, a shop might have the following offerings:

Spot Gold: 1197

1 Oz. AGE: 1258
1/2 AGE: 675
1/4 AGE: 350
1/10 AGE: 150

That means you are paying 1258 per ounce for the 1-ounce piece, 1350 per ounce for the 1/2 ounce, 1400 per ounce for the 1/4 ounce and 1500 per ounce for the 1/10 ounce piece.

Ask the shop what they have for "close to spot," and they may let you know what items they have at 2% over or 5% over. The place I visit, the Pamp Suisse bars are often a good deal, but so are things like 2 Pesos or 10 francs.

Okay so recently I have been contemplating the same thing. I have a short budget being 24yrs old so I buy what I can afford and with the recent downfall of gold, I figured it was a good chance to finally get my feet wet with gold.

I wanted to get the pamp suisse ones, but the premiums were just too high, so I went to ebay and I found IGR (istanbul gold refinery) 1 gram bars so I won an auction at $50 shipped.

It came and I liked it so much I bought another one for under $50 and I also got (3) 0.5g bars for under $74. I'll end up grabbing a few more probably but I want to move up to 1/10 & 1/4 rounds.

I like a variety. I have some various 1/10 oz coins, some 1/4 oz coins, some 1 gram bars, 2.5 gram bars, and so on. Some people will tell you that buying fractional gold is not wise since you will generally pay a hefty premium over spot. This is true, however it has also been my experience that fractional gold is easier to liquidate. In my case, I was able to sell it for a nice premium over spot. In other words, it's true that I paid a premium when I bought, but I also got a premium when I sold.

I would simply recommend that you do what makes you happy. I enjoy fractional gold, therefore I buy it because it makes me happy. I could think of a few worse things to spend my money on. Just my Two Cents of course...

If you enjoy collecting the small Pamp gold bars, and you understand the cost, there's nothing wrong with 'em at all. Just make sure you do your homework and don't overpay.

I am a gather of 1 gram gold. Yes the price per ounce is quite high. Put not all stackers have the financial means to purchase coins or bars of more heft. To me if gold goes to the lofty highs of say $1900 per there will always be buyers at the more affordable price a 1 gram bar brings to the table. Gold is gold in any form. Buy what you can when you can. Just one mans two Lincolns worth. Stack on

The smaller it is, the more you pay for it. 1 gram of gold can be so expensive it's a rip-off.
I tend to sit and wait until I gather enough to buy a decent size.

I say: if you cannot buy at least 10 grams, then avoid anything smaller.
Pamp is beautiful, but very expensive.

If you cannot buy 10 grams of gold, either wait and accumulate money or, buy silver! You could buy almost 2 ounces of silver with gold around 1300 $. If it goes down to 1,200 $, maybe lower, then you could buy 2 ounces of silver much easier.

You do pay a huge premium for products that small, but on the bright side other people generally will as well if you went to sell. If you like them and get them because you like them then its not a bad buy. They arent a good investment though with such a high premium.

Thanks for all the advice, I'm going to save up to buy a 10 gram next time.
5 of these 1 gram is enough for now.

I have that generic blue Pamp Suisse box that holds 25 so I'm trying to fill it up.
