Went to my LCS to get some things for a trade plus a silver quarter and Frankin half. $21.50 was the total, and I requested my change in small dollars and halves. He fishes out my change from his cash box, and I notice a golden colored coin in there. I ask him "Isn't that another dollar in there?" "No, just a gold plated half, I can swap it out if you want it." What the heck, it's a nifty novelty "I'll take it" I only realized it was counter-stamped as well when I got it home and set it by my laptop on my desk. It's only plating, but hey, I has gold in coin form now

Awesome. I have one from 1985 as well. Do you think they were privately mass plated?

Same counter stamping on yours, coinmaniac1?
Could be some sort of mass produced something or other.

These were promoted via newspaper ads by private sellers to honor either the 20th anniversary of JFK's election or the 25th anniversary for something like $6 a pop.

Never saw one of those before.
I'd probably print a copy of that ad and frame it with the coin.
Kennedy memorabilia?
I wonder how many were made?

Kennedy was elected in 1960. Not sure what 1985 means, other than it being the 25th anniversary.
