I made up a page on South Korean pattern coins for the first "Won" coins. Take a look, if interested:

Very interesting mlov. I lived in Korea for three years. 89-92 but wasn't much of a collector then. I did manage to return home with a bunch of change though. Will go through it when I get back to the states next month.

Hey BLadd,

It's good to hear from you. I think the next webpage I'll create is an explanation of the 1959 "Hwan" coins. I'm also thinking of putting up a page about the 1970 Silver and Gold Commemorative coins that commemorated 5,000 years of Korean history. Another one will be on the 1981 5th Republic Commemoratives that celebrated General Chun Do-hwan's takeover of the Presidency. The story behind both of those commemoratives sets reveals a lot about the political machinations that were going on in South Korea in those days.
