I have seen several Sydney Olympic coins recently and really like some of the designs. But it seems to me these kind of commemoratives lose value pretty fast as the Olympic flame moves to another location. Am I correct or do they hold their value. Thanks in advance.

I personally only have the one with the platypus, but in my experience they still sell for well above spot. I bought mine in 2009 when spot silver was in the teens and I still ended up paying $39 for it. I've seen many go for more since, which is why I've never had the chance to add the shark, yet.

Forgot to add, I've noticed not all the Sidney offerings sell as well, so it all depends on which one/s you're after.

I would strongly guess that their premium would loose value over time..

Olympic coin prices have always seemed to be cyclical to me. As "Olympic fever" hits in the buildup to each games, coins from previous Olympiads hit their peaks at the same time. This is especially true for items from a previous Games held in the same country. Melbourne 1956 Olympics paraphernalia and collectables hit maximum prices in the leadup to the Sydney 2000 games, for example.
