I don't know if it's possible to compare, but if you were to take a pic with a digicam that has a macro or supermacro setting, how much X would that be, in comparison to the QX5 pics above of 10X & 60X?

This is about the best my S2 IS can do for magnification:

Here's an idea of what my newer camera is capable of:

With an extension tube, I believe I could probably reach the equivalent of 60x from a QX5. My QX-5 has not been turned on since I got the new Canon. I was never satisfied with the quality of its' focus, anyways.

Wow! Great pics, Bryan & SuperDave. Thanks.

SuperDave, I'm assuming the "new Canon" you're talking about is a digital high-end SLR?

Actually, a low-end dSLR (Digital Rebel XT) with a great lens - the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro. That lens could put perfect images on a $5 store-bought throwaway camera.

You could duplicate my rig for a little over $1100, including a good CF card and AC adapter. I have another $100 in the remote control software I use with it.

And $15 in the lighting setup.

Just bit the bullet & purchased a new QX5 from Best buy online. It goes by the name: Digital Blue Smithsonian Computer Microscope; one and the same as the QX5.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...153337209483

$80 minus a 12% Memorial Day Rewards Zone discount; plus I called & got the rep to wave the $11 delivery charge. Final cost - $70.00 plus tax = $74.90!

Thanks for all the advice & links!
