Poll Question
How easy is it for you to get insurance through USPS. I have had to get it before through UPS and it was a terrible fight to get it. How hard was it to get the money after they damaged or lost something?

I use ebay checkout and print my own labels with my Dymo label printer. If I need insurance, it figures it out and prints my USPS label. No more post office for me :)

I do the same thing. I meant how hard was it to get the money after they damaged or lost something.

Oh! My bad.
I've never had to claim anything...yet.

never having filed a claim, can't really speak, but I think it is a little involved. Not enough to stay away, but something to consider.

Quote: Oh! My bad. No, I should have put that in the poll. The only time I have had a problem was when we sent a box of stuff and it fell apart. It was taped good when it left here, I don't know how it fell apart. We didn't have insurance on it , and we never found out what happened to everything. It was a lot of vehicle parts and what surprised me was a few were still in the box and it was heavily taped on the bottom. If it was the same place, why did they not go and find what fell out? Oh well.

I have modified to add that you are asking about filing a claim. I have also reset the votes, and added "Never filed"

If you are shipping something extremely heavy you need to employ the box inside of a box technique. This would be placing the heavy part securely(bubble wrap, packing peanuts, styrofoam, ect) inside of a smaller box that fits inside of another box with packing peanuts or styrofoam in between. As far as collecting a claim, that usually takes about 45 days. You have to keep in mind the sheer volume USPS deals with on a daily basis.

True, and that was the strange thing about the box that fell apart. It didn't have anything heavy in it and was packaged well. Do you think there could have been something that tore it up or cut the bottom of the box out?

They do not treat these boxes like little infants. Anything is possible.

Yeah, I still think they treat them better than UPS. I have heard countless stories, (including my first experience with them), of items tore up. Of course, normally UPS items are bigger than USPS items.
