This coin is a favorite of mine because of the way it was double struck. (Many of this type were off-struck, doubled, or whatever, but I think that this one is "neat"). I call it the 2 Kings. As I remember, it shows Spanish King Phillip IIII in 1655. Bill

Cool one, were these hand struck?

Yes, I think that these were struck by hand.

That would actually make the error more common, almost commonplace. Still cool though =)

Continuing the thread, here is a double-struck 1/2 real, ca 1610, of Phillip IIII's father (Phillip III). Bill P.S. - Common, you say? How many do You have? *** Edited by Staff - Please stop making your posts all bold. ***

that is a great pair of coins--thanks for sharing! I often see evidence of doubling on hand-struck pieces, but rarely by this amount and with this much clarity in both strikes.

with spence. Two real-y cool coins. I apologize for my horrible puns. Anyways have you considered sending to PCGS or NGC?

Dustin6, I have not ever had any coins certified. Perhaps, when I decide to sell these or others, it might add value.
(Maybe).

Actually, thinking about it, the French crown brockages posted here earlier might be sent in. humm.

I would recommend it. It kind of gives the coin a more professional look. I would give a representative at PCGS or NGC an email or a call because it's not every day they see something like this. Then they could appraise it, tell you how much it would cost to get it graded, and who knows, maybe give you a special label. There's really nothing you can lose if you just contact the grading services. So I would really reccomend just contacting them.

The Bill Snyder provenance assuredly adds value ... to me, at least!
