Hi, I need some help attributing this VAM. I have attached some images and it appears to be a small o/o. The 188 doesn't have any obvious doubling, the 1 and the second 8 may have some doubling (maybe). Looking at VAMWorld the only two micro o/o is the VAM-7 or VAM-29. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I'm not convinced it's either one. The mint mark position doesn't appear to be a match.

There are others with unlisted doubling of the mint mark, and many with no mint mark description at all. Look at 1D, for instance.

Good point, I was looking only under the o/o varieties. I will do some more research today. Thanks!

The trouble is, with so little detail listed for that date it's quite likely you won't come up with a definitive answer. Don't forget, VAMming is very much a work in progress and there's more left to do than has been done to date.

There are many doubled date 1880 o & s coins that I don't think really deserve a listing but get one. The doubling is so subtle that you will need to have a good loop and look at the date from every angle to see the doubling sometimes. Even if you figure it out it won't add much value unless it is a list coin or a high grade example of a VAM that is hard to find in high grades. But if you are in it for the fun and learning than I would try to figure it out just so you know. You should be able to narrow it down by using the small O reverses. These three VAMs 14, 56 and 72 seem to match your normal date position like and the mm looks similar for the VAMs. I think your mm was hit by another coin making it look like it is doubled.
