Picked this up today and believe I've got a VAM 1A. I've found three markers on the obverse, they are in pics below. Hoping you all might be able to confirm for me... Thanks in advance...

I'll confirm it. The RI gouge is clear, and definitive.

I'm seeing a tiny bit of wear and really nice remaining luster in your pics; this might be one they'd call AU58.

Not sure what you mean by second gouge. The three picks with arrows are all three markers listed in VAMworld. I'll look for another if you can tell me where it might be. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure he was referring to the first left star; there should be two parallel gouges there, one shorter than the other. Your coin is a bit unclear in that area, but I can see one of the star gouges and the other at RI, and the mark under the 7 in the denticles, are quite definitive as to the attribution. With that in mind, any variance on the gouges at the star can be put down to strike or die wear.

Its been a long time, as
I have been sitting on this VAM for a loooong time do to this same fact......the "gouge" by it self is not truely a designation of a VAM the VAM 101 rules.......this coin was vammed a while ago.......do to the gouges........but I have been out of the ball park for a year now.. just getting bcak in........Still....the second gouge is known... not sure wht the disignation is....... even if its a valide.........O tommarrow is my time off what a horrible week.

I want to take notice for this coin.........I have only seen this coin in the PL condition....look at the originators photos.....we can go from there.....G
