I like that coin. Not cleaned -- but probably "washed" at some point long ago, or at least sat in damp conditions. No big deal and I find it very pleasing.
Can't help with varieties, but it seems VF-35 to me. The reverse is especially nice, and would lift it to EF-40 if there were not quite as much wear to the brow on the obverse.

VF-30 details, possibly once cleaned

VF35+, I think it could go EF40, however, I believe this coin was cleaned. also there is something going on between the 1 and 8 that could be some corrosion. with that and the obv scratches most likely would get a details grade

Initially looking at the coin I did not think it was cleaned. I don't see any obverse scratches. There are a couple tiny verdegris spots.

What scratches? The nicks on the face are few and would only detract if we were talking about an uncirculated specimen.
I've seen this colour on a lot of original large cents over the years. I really think it's non-intentional -- damp pockets, basement floor, something like that. I doubt it is possible to conclude that it has definitely been cleaned. But there could be an "env damage" or some other non-specific conclusion if you slab it and the grader is suspicious enough to give you a details grade.
Any way, I think it is a nice coin, and might even have picked up myself had I seen the auction.

jerryc39 - I need redact my comments above. I dont know what I was looking at. when I went back out to the link you posted I must have had brain damage as to what I was thinking. I think this is a nice example in the EF40 range. I do not think it was cleaned.

no problem panzaldi You and I usually see about the same thing when we comment on these large cents. Thanks for your opinion.

Wow I like that Large cent neat looking, I could easily call it VF++ so close to EF it hurts. Cleaned? not likely, but surely conserved at one point. It did not sell? The price was pretty good too.

I see a vf-ef slider. I do not think that it has been cleaned. I agree N-19. Cool lines on the back. Nice coin.

I think I would have beaten the competition out of the way with a baseball bat to snag that one at $30.

thanks for the nice comments about the coin guys. I did end up buying it after auction closed. Could not resist those lines! Had not seen any other coin with those. Jerry
