I noticed there are quite a number of collectors here from Arizona. I will be in Sun City West next month to celebrate my Dad's 75th birthday. I might be able to sneak off for a while to a coin shop or coin show. Any recommendations?

There is a small shop with reasonable prices and great customer service on 99th ave and Bell (I think...it could be 109th ave) but it is in that area on the North West corner. It is a Guy and his granddaughter that runs the shop. I bought bullion ASE from him for $14.00 each Another shop I like to go to is on 43rd Ave and Olive on the North East side. You are coming out at a great time....not to hot and all the snowbirds are gone back east. Hope you have a great time out here.... Tim

Not too hot? Define "hot". Temps are breaking 100F. In my winter AZ desert home, it's even hotter. Fortunately, the temps don't peak until mid-day and it cools off very nicely at night, down into the 70s. Up here in the AZ mountains (Prescott elev 5400'), it hasn't been getting much above 80 in daytime (and it's a dry heat), low 50s in the mornings (long sleeved shirt recommended). But no real coin shops up here, at least that I've found so far. Watch out for Kamikaze Phoenix drivers. Otherwise, Arizona is a great place to visit! The cactus are in bloom. Bring camera. Fred

Too hot for me is 118 or hotter.... Right now, the pool water is great and it is very beautiful in the mornings and evenings.

118 degrees? I hope that is in F, not C. All I know is in the Chicago area when it is close to 90 everyone complains.

I'm originally from upstate NY with two seasons: July and winter. When the temps hit 70F there, people turn on their air conditioners. Down here, I feel cold at 75F, but above 90F, my blood pressure medication works overtime and my b/p drops dangerously low (as in 70/50), so I avoid the heat extremes. Yet, I have friends who walk around with sweatshirts or heavy coats below 80F. Ya gotta love the dry air! No sticky feeling when the temps go up.

Now I'm all set for coin shops, thanks! Just one more thing. I would like to get my Dad a nice bottle of Scotch somewhere in the Sun City West area. Any suggestions?

Down here, hard liquor is sold in grocery stores and other retail outlets (there may be dedicated liquor stores in AZ, but I haven't seen any; I don't get out much). I don't drink so can't give an informed opinion of a good location to find a GOOD bottle of Scotch (e.g., Glenlivit Glenfarclas single malt Scotch) but might suggest starting with the nearest Safeway grocery store. The only "blue law" regarding liquor sales is that one can't buy liquor before 10 AM on Sundays. This is so those suffering from Saturday night hangovers must suffer for a few extra hours to teach them a lesson.

Thanks a million, Fred! I'll check out the nearby Safeway on Bell.
