So I am about to buy new Camera for the family and looking at Sony NEX-5R. I have a Celstron 44302 which doesn't have capability to control the LEDs. I have been messing with the LED filters but my photos suck :)

Sony-Nex-5r-Or-USB-Microscope-?

So what do you think of Sony NEX-5R ? I am guessing it has a Macro mode. Also any recommended USB microscope with light control ?

The Sony isn't going to have a "Macro mode" because it's an interchangeable-lens camera. With that said, chances are you'll be able to create decent full-face coin images even with the stock 18-55 lens simply because of the quality of the parts. And your family is going to be hard-pressed to make effective use of the Celestron on vacation/

Doing full-face images with the Celestron pushes it farther out from its' sweet spot - magnification - than it would push the Sony. You'll find the Sony a terrific "family" camera, and it would be a nice complement to the Celestron for your coin imaging activities. Sony's 35mm Macro for the NEX is (from what I've read) a fine macro lens indeed. And don't forget....the NEX is just as easy to adapt to an M42 bellows mount as anything else; you could use that camera with the bellows/duplicating lens setup we like so much around here and come up with images as good as anyone on the forum.

I bought the Sony NEX-5R around Xmas 2012-13. It's a very good camera and is quite compact, however, it does have some limitations. It can take some coin photographs and has a macro mode but it doesn't have the "super macro" that I need for coin close-ups. This Xmas I hope to get the macro lens for it so I can photograph coins. The thought was that at 10 Mpixels I could photograph coins from far way but this didn't turn out as well as hoped.

Also they have a series of these alpha type cameras. This one is the least expensive of them and I was hoping for more programability in taking photos. It is way better than the usual cheap digital cameras and the manual settings mode is necessary for tricky shots: for example forcing the flash to fire when it normally wouldn't on auto mode.

I really don't know of any alternative short of spending thousands of $ and getting a camera 3x the size tho.
