And I'm finally prepared to break them out of their cardboard shell and submit a few of them ('43-S, '44-PD, '45-PDS) to PCGS just to see what happens. Seemed like an opportune time to get a couple shots of the whole family together one last time and test out my new copy stand at the top of it's range.

I'm amazed. Usually when I see one of those made-up sets, the coins in them look like garbage. I know the one I have does ; on the other hand, I paid next to nothing for it.

These are REALLY nice coins. If they were mine, they would be in Mylar 2x2's, in achival quality non PVC album pages.
Toning THAT delicate certainly won't last forever! Having said that, I am not a fan of slabs, either. Albums are more convenient, and excellent coins (as these are), are quite capable of standing for themselves.
Bonus: Saves you the expenses of grading.

I will be selling them, that's why I want them slabbed. Unless somebody wants to give me $500+ for the set as is... if I can get them into slabs with clean grades (which should happen, imho) I expect them to fetch strong prices because the toning is unreal for War Nickels.

Don't even *think* about selling these before they're slabbed. The toning is amazing. I know how sensitive toning is to perfect lighting; I suspect most of them resemble the '45-D more than your image indicates. You'll get your "strong" prices.

Great looking toners! I have one question, why did the reverse tone more than the obverse?

Did you assemble that set, or buy them all together?

The reverse was against a cardboard backing that imparted the toning. I bought this set from a local dealer for $65.

Have you considered putting the cardboard backing against the obverse of these?
