Great find, it does look like it could have been struck through a wire.

Coop...the area on my coin sure does look a lot like the picture of your struck through wire coin.The wheat back....

Seems to me to be more like some post mint debris of sorts
stuck on the surface. By my eyes anyway.

The incuse area is rounded, noted as a struck through stronger than zinc. But it is a keeper.

Now how would the mint not notice a fairly sizable piece of STRING on the die?

Coins are struck several hundred a minute. They don't inspect each coin. Chances are the struck through item was stuck to that coin after the coin left the chamber. Fell off later. Still a nice find.
